Mountain Lake 1878 original p. 148: here the name is spelled Stees. Mountain Lake 1912 p. 43 gives a birth date of 21 Oct. and a marriage date of 25 Nov. Surname shown as Stahl in Brothers in Deed, but Staess in Migration from the Russian Empire.

  • Note: Info from Alma Classen, # 82. "The Johann Stoesz 1731-1992"by Arlene Stoesz. First Menn Ch, Mt Lake, MN records p 95. He operated a mill near Schoenthal until 1877 and moved his family direct to southern Minn. where our branch of the family grew up, He was 38 year old when he came to America. His brothers & sisters had moved to Canada 3 years ealier but the Heppner family moved to Minn a year earlier.The trip across Atlantic took 14 days.The ship Red Star Liner landed in Philadelphia and took train to Butterfield.
