Quick-Search

Searches made with Quick-Search are also possible with the full Individual Search page, but it has a new convenience.

The Quick Search makes available a small number of fields, but it can give immediate feedback. After each keystroke, the Quick Search immediately reports how many results are found immediately.

Options
  • With the option to "Return known spelling variations" (default), it will search for all spellings of the name; in this case, it will include variations like "Bernhard von Riesen," which is another form of "Ben" and "Friesen."
  • Without that option, it will only search for the name exactly as found in the database.
  • If you specify that it is a married name, the search will treat it as the individual's given name with the husband's surname.
  • The search may be narrowed by giving a birth year. After the birth year is entered, a field will open up for a margin
  • If it suits your search, a field may be left blank. If you specify only the surname of "Friesen" with no given name, it will return 47,000+ results. If you further specify a birth year of 1932 +/-10 years, 6200+ results will be returned.
  • People who are used to using "Reference Codes" may like to enter that code (e.g., /075be) in the Surname field to replace "Ben" and "Friesen".
For much more granularity in the search try the Individual Search.

To learn about how the search itself is executed, go to the help page, "Execution of the Individual Search".
